Northstar Media — Content Production System

A content production system designed to make the entire journey from idea to publication visible, organized, and easier to manage.

Northstar Media content production dashboard showing the main production views
The dashboard turns one content database into focused views for different stages of production.
Northstar Media content pipeline showing content organized by production stage
The pipeline makes the state of the entire content operation visible.
Northstar Media recording queue showing content currently being recorded
The recording view isolates the content currently in production.
Northstar Media content page showing objective, hook, CTA, script, production notes, and assets
Each piece of content has a structured workspace for the information needed to produce it.

Problem

Content work can become difficult to manage when ideas, scripts, recordings, edits, reviews, deadlines, and publishing are tracked separately or mostly kept in people's heads.

Situation

Northstar Media was modeled as a small content business producing content across platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, and LinkedIn. The system needed to support the full production lifecycle while making it immediately obvious what was being worked on, what was coming next, and where content was getting stuck.

Diagnosis

The main problem was not a lack of places to store content. The problem was a lack of operational visibility across the production process. A content idea needed to become a trackable piece of work with a clear stage, owner, deadline, priority, and production state.

System designed

I designed a centralized content-production workspace with a Content database and Team database. Each content item can carry its format, owner, priority, deadline, stage, status, script, production notes, review notes, assets, and publishing information. The dashboard then turns the same database into purpose-specific views: Content Pipeline, Publishing This Week, Content Ideas, Currently Scripting, Due Soon, Recording Queue, Being Edited, Approval Awaiting, Overdue, and Blocked.

Implementation

The system was designed around the actual production lifecycle rather than around a generic task list. Different stages and production states are surfaced through filtered views so each part of the team can focus on the work that matters to them. Individual content pages provide structured spaces for the objective, hook, CTA, script, production notes, review notes, and assets.

Result

The completed system creates a single production pipeline where content can be followed from idea through scripting, recording, editing, review, approval, scheduling, and publication. The dashboard is designed to answer practical questions quickly: What are we making? What's being worked on? What's due? What's waiting for review? What's blocked?

Lessons learned

A single database can support very different workflows when its information is surfaced through carefully designed views. The goal is not to create more tracking; it is to make the right information visible at the moment someone needs it.
