The first system that actually stuck

I built a task board today that I think might actually survive contact with a real week. That sounds like a low bar. It is a low bar. Every system I've built for myself over the last year has died somewhere between day three and day ten, usually because I made it too clever.

This one is embarrassingly simple:

  • One list for "this week"
  • One list for "waiting on someone else"
  • One list for "someday"

That's it. No automation, no colour coding, no custom fields. I kept waiting for the moment where I'd need more structure and it never came.

I think the lesson, if there is one yet, is that the system doesn't need to model my whole life. It needs to survive Tuesday.
